Bon Iver has become an integral part of global independent music scene. With their 4th album "i, i", released in 2019, the band completes the cycle of the season: the winter with "For Emma, Forever Ago" (2007) was followed by the spring album "Bon Iver" (2011) and the summer "22, A Million".
"i, i" now closes the circle with autumn. For Bon Iver's front man Justin Vernon, the new album feels like "the most adult record, the most complete".
After the rather experimental "22, A Million", "i, i" encompasses the entire spectrum of the band. Free from the distorted vocal effects that used to express a phase of fear and anxiety, Vernon now sings about the balance between the individual and the community, between inspiration and creation. The band spent six weeks at the Sonic Ranch in West Texas, where they created her fourth work with calm, focus and creative freedom. In a way, “i, i” tells the story of exactly that time. A story with many faces, as Vernon himself defines: “This project started with a single person, but throughout the last 11 years, the identity of Bon Iver has bloomed and can only be defined by the faces in the ever-growing family we are. For him the titel means “whatever it means to you or me. It can mean deciphering and bolstering one's identity. It can be how important the self is and how unimportant the self is, how we're all connected."
